Hi Sally, I personally don't seal the plates, but I use outdoor vinyl and just make sure the edges are sealed down very tightly. I have heard from many people that sealing them weakens the adhesive on the vinyl. I have never sealed any of my work and have never had a problem with them either. Hope that answers your question.
